This policy explains what HouseBouse.com collects when you read our home and garden improvement and maintenance articles, and what you can do about it. The site is written and maintained by John, a staff writer whose archive is at /author/john/.
Data we collect
Server logs
Our hosting server records standard request data each time a page loads: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. These logs are used to keep the site running, diagnose errors, and block abusive traffic.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. HouseBouse.com uses cookies set by Google Analytics 4 to measure anonymous usage statistics, such as which tool guides and garden articles are read most. We do not run an on-site advertising network and we do not set advertising cookies ourselves.
Comment form
The comment form is the only form on this site that collects personal data. When you leave a comment, we receive your name, email address, website URL if you provide one, and your comment text. Your email is not published. Comments are held in the moderation queue and are not visible until approved.
Third-party services
- Google Analytics 4 (cookie-based, anonymous usage statistics). Data is retained according to Google settings.
- Google Fonts, loaded from Google servers, which means your IP address reaches Google when a page renders.
- YouTube embeds in some posts. Loading a video lets YouTube set cookies and collect playback data under Google’s policies.
- Amazon affiliate links through the Amazon Associates program in some articles. If you click one and buy, Amazon tracks the referral. We earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Why we use this data
Server logs keep the site secure and online. Analytics tells us which topics, such as power tools, cleaning, construction, electrical work, gardening, or moving, deserve more coverage. Comment data lets us publish your message and reply where a reply is warranted. Affiliate links fund the writing.
Retention
Comments stay published until you ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained according to Google settings. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and the CCPA, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To make a request about a comment, use the contact route below.
Opting out of Google Analytics and ads
You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Analytics from collecting data about your visits. For Google ad personalization, use https://adssettings.google.com.
Disabling cookies
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings menu. Blocking cookies may affect how embedded YouTube videos and Analytics behave, but the articles themselves remain readable.
Children under 13
HouseBouse.com is written for adults doing home and garden work. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If a comment from a child under 13 reaches us, contact us and we will remove it.

Articles link to outside sites, including Amazon and YouTube. We do not control their privacy practices. Read their policies before submitting data there.
